Amazing power in a super compact design By Edward Sawm I used to have a Canon PowerShot S110 Digital ELPH 6 years or so, and I loved that camera. I did not realize there was much more than a little camera could do! I researched the new Canon's out there (and I loved the ELPH), and decided on the SD770 IS for its compact design and features outlined well by others.
This camera just blows me away. Take amazing photos all over the automatic mode. In situations where full-auto does not quite do the job best, this camera lets you change ISO settings, white balance, focus mode, and a host of other factors.
Compared to the S110, I thought the ability to change the ISO setting was a big improvement over previous generations. You're actually changing the sensitivity of the sensor of the camera, allowing you to take pictures with more clarity in conditions with less light. This, along with image stabilization (which in turn, blows me away on this camera) allows you to avoid having to use flash, preserve the real look of the scene, and take a picture vividly clear.
Battery life is amazing. I have not loaded once but ... I'm more than 150 pictures taken now. I took many pictures in low light without flash, which drains the battery faster because the sensors have to stay longer. The low battery warning has come in ... but still I have had more than 10 images of low power, giving you plenty of warning time.
I also did not need more megapixels, because my pictures from my 2MP S110 looked good. It is true that 10MP looks even better, but a great benefit is that it automatically improves your ability to do digital zoom and keep the image sharp looking. You can take a picture 10MP full resolution of a scene, then crop up later to zoom in on part of the scene you want, and still have a clear picture of a 4x6 print. The camera is also able to do this more automatically ... if you decide to take a picture with a lower resolution, as well as 4 MP, and use the digital zoom, the camera will use its 10-megapixel sensor is the full capacity of digital capture and maintain the quality of the image.
Just a fantastic camera. I'm glad I stuck with Canon, and I'm glad I bought the last generation.
