I can not write a review in depth of this camera because they simply have no knowledge of any of the cameras and photography. But I can tell you what I, as an amateur, like about it and why I chose it.
This is the second Canon digital camera I ever had. Last year I bought the Canon PowerShot SX120IS 10MP camera with 10x Optical Image Stabilizer images and 3-inch LCD (and wrote a review of the Amazon with the first sentence of this review, as well as some similar parts). I had a good amount of research on brands and models before buying this camera and ended up loving. It was very easy to use and met all my needs relatively simple - until it fell into the Strait of Juan de Fuca, while transporting back to Vancouver Island a few weeks ago. (Do not ask).
Because it had been so happy with this camera, my first impulse was to take the same model as a replacement. But knowing how fast the technology seems to change, I decided to see the new models before making a purchase. That's when I found the SD4500IS. It is true I was a little seduced by design - all smooth and shiny, lying there tempting me (and I, for my part, I love the color). But I knew it would not be happy with it unless, as the SX120IS, I met my criteria, which is:
1. Should be very easy to use. And I mean simple for me - the fan above. 2. They must take decent pictures, even for informal operators with little experience (again, that would be me). 3. You must have a fast shutter speed, because the grandchildren and dogs can move very, very fast. 4. It should fit in the bag. (The new bag, with zipper pevent I'm counting on things to fall in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, or any other body of water, for that matter.) 5. More importantly, you must have optical image stabilizer Canon.
Optical Image Stabilizer Canon is a feature that I discovered in my search for cameras last year and quickly became my new best friend. I have a tremor condition that causes tremor in my hands. I do not mind and do not always affect the work closely, but can make the celebration of something firm - say, for example, a camera - almost impossible. As you might guess, the result of this instability, when taking pictures is often bad photos.
The optical image stabilizer is like a miracle for me. With it, I can take close-ups that are surprisingly clear - not all the time, of course, but most times. And, in combination with a fast shutter speed, image stabilization really helps me get some big shots - even action scenes - of my grandchildren and my dog. I love this feature and would never consider buying another camera without it. (Note: I uploaded a photo to the client-side image section for this camera, making a picture of a flower shooting star - Dodecatheon - which I think shows the detail that I was able to capture with Optical Image Stabilizer) .
I had a great salesman, Jeremy, did not mind taking some time with me. (Luckily for me, he speaks English, besides the camera-Techy. ) Intelligent gathering on the way stared longingly at the SD4500IS, Jeremy was able to convince me that I could satisfy my needs as well as he had SX120IS. Like the SX120IS is really easy to operate (even for me! I know! I was surprised, too!) And have the necessary fast shutter speed and image stabilizer. That fits in my handbag. Jeremy told me that if I was happy with the photos he was doing with the SX120IS, it would be equally or more satisfied with those obtained with the SD4500IS. And now I've had the chance to use it, I can confirm that he was right - I'm getting photos that I find incredible. Yes!
The following features in the SC4500IS also considered in my decision to buy:
1. The HD video capability. I used the video mode a few times a day (full disclosure: though Jeremy had shown me this feature, my son had to help me "remember" how much shooting and see videos), but the quality was really wonderful. Even with my trembling hands, I was impressed enough with the final product (and kind of surprised that I had done the shooting). I have not a separate video camera and I am excited to have the option to shoot some videos from time to time, especially when visiting their grandchildren living 2,000 miles from me. 2. The high speed burst mode. I tried this by taking some pictures of my granddaughter playing frisbee with my dog. I love watching the `stop-shots" and I think this function is going to be fun. I like to play around in Photoshop and I have some ideas on how I can use images taken from this creatively. 3. The low light performance of the system. I had not given this feature much attention until Jeremy told me about it. But because my house does not get much natural light, particularly in the winter, I think this will become a feature I really appreciate.
Of course, it is still very new, but until now, I'm enjoying the new camera and I recommend it. While it cost more than the SX120IS, I am satisfied with my purchase and I do not regret spending the extra money. (I must admit, it helped that I had a gift card.) However, if you're looking for something with a lower price, I still recommend the SX120IS as well, which currently sells for about $ 100 less here on Amazon.
